Elfstedentocht by kayak |
Every winter, a lot of people hope we will get enough ice to ride skates. And not just a bit on a frozen pool, or even a tour: we hope for the skating tour: the Elfstedentocht (tour along eleven cities). The Elfstedentocht is about 220 kilometres long, a challenge for the skaters and a festival for the watchers. The Elfstedentocht isn't very often held, last time was 1997. However, if there isn't enough ice, you can also do it walking, by bike, on horseback, on roller-skates, by any motorised transport ... and, of course, by boat. Since we started kayaking to practice for our trip to New Zealand, we got the idea of doing the Elfstedentocht by kayak. In June 2006 we got our kayaks on the car and went to Friesland for 9 days. As some of the pictures were made from the kayak, through a watertight bag, there are water stains on it sometimes. |
