Bergen, seen from Mount Fløyen

In the 12th and 13th centuries Bergen was the capital of Norway. Bergen was one of the cities of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages. Nowadays, Bergen is Norway's second city with 220,000 people.

The old part of Bergen contains a lot of wooden houses. The fronts of these houses are colourful, as you can see below. At the back a labyrinth of alleys and stairs offers a peek into history.
